Husband, wife killed by lightning strike in Khagrachhari

A couple were killed in a lightning strike in Thalipara of Nuncharri area in Mahalchhari upazila of Khagrachhari on Saturday evening.

The deceased were Uchimong Marma, 50, and his wife Chaiyao Marma, 45. They had four children.

Their eldest son, Akhong Marma, said heavy rain was falling around 7pm when his mother was standing near the door and his father was entering the house from the yard. A lightning strike suddenly hit, killing them on the spot.

The family’s solar panel and other household items were also damaged in the incident.

Mahalchhari police station OC Mirza Zahir Uddin said he had heard about the deaths but the incident occurred far from the police station. Police were collecting further information.
