Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will move into Bangabhaban on Sunday (August 23), his office has said.
He is scheduled to leave his government residence on Minto Road for Bangabhaban at 10:50am that day.
Mirza Fakhrul, who served as secretary general of the long-ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for many years, took oath as the country’s 23rd president on Friday evening.
According to the President’s Office, after arriving at Gate No. 2 of Bangabhaban on Sunday, a smartly turned-out police contingent will escort the president to the Guard of Honour podium.
There, a smart contingent of the President Guard Regiment will accord him a Guard of Honour.
After the ceremony, President Mirza Fakhrul will proceed to his office at Bangabhaban.
Earlier, on Saturday at 9:30am, the new president is scheduled to visit the National Martyrs’ Memorial to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War.
He will lay a wreath there and receive a Guard of Honour from representatives of the three armed forces.
After paying tribute, President Mirza Fakhrul will return to his Minto Road residence. He may later go to his residence in Gulshan.
Mirza Fakhrul, the BNP’s presidential candidate, won the presidential election on Thursday with 255 votes. He had been serving as the minister in charge of the Local Government Division before being elected president.
