US pop star Ariana Grande has once again expressed anger after one of her songs was used in a political post supporting President Donald Trump. This time, her 2024 hit “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” was featured in a social media post by Trump supporters.

A video was posted on the “Team Trump” TikTok account on Thursday, showing Trump walking toward a stage. The caption read, “This shouldn’t be controversial!” and included hashtags referencing Trump, Ariana Grande and MAGA.

After noticing her song in the post, Grande directly responded in the comments, writing, “Do not ever use my music again. And [you] lie.”

Second Incident in Two Months

This is not the first recent clash between Grande and the Trump administration over the use of her music. It is the 'second time in just two months' that one of her songs has appeared in a political post, with the singer objecting on both occasions.

In June, the White House used a version of Grande’s song “Bye” in a TikTok video showing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers arresting and handcuffing several people.

Grande strongly condemned the use of her song at the time, saying she did not want her music associated with what she described as “barbaric, inhumane and heinous” actions. Following efforts by her team, the audio was removed from the post.

However, the audio of “We Can’t Be Friends” remains in the latest post.

Growing Tensions Between Trump Administration and Musicians

Grande is not the only artist whose music has sparked controversy after being used in Trump-related posts. Several musicians have objected to their songs being associated with the administration or its political messaging.

Songs by 'Taylor Swift' and 'Bad Bunny' have also been removed from Trump-related posts. Meanwhile, singer-songwriter 'Noah Kahan' voiced a stronger objection in late July after the White House used his song 'American Cars' in an Instagram post.

Kahan said he had never given permission for his music to be used in support of Trump or his administration.

The incidents have renewed debate over whether artists have authorized the use of their music in political campaigns and government-related social media content.

Grande’s Position Remains Clear

Grande has previously spoken out on a range of social and political issues. Her latest response, though brief, made her position clear: she does not want her music associated with political messaging from the Trump administration or its supporters.

“We Can’t Be Friends,” one of Grande’s popular songs from 2024, deals primarily with relationships, separation and complicated emotions. Its use in a political video has therefore drawn further attention from the singer.

Variety contacted the White House for comment on the latest incident but did not receive a response.
