Police have identified the teenage girl whose body was recovered in front of the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). The deceased was identified as Mim Akter, 15. Three people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Niaz Mehedi confirmed the information on Thursday (August 20).
The arrested individuals are A.B.M. Abdur Razzak, 47, Md. Foysal Ahmed, 35, and Rahema Khatun Reshma, 29.
According to Niaz Mehedi, citing Shahbagh Police Station, locals informed police after spotting the body of a teenage girl lying in front of the emergency department of DMCH on August 12. Shahbagh police then launched a technology-assisted investigation to identify the deceased.
After confirming her identity, a special team of Shahbagh Police Station was formed to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death. An unnatural death case was filed at Shahbagh Police Station on August 13.
Later, acting on intelligence and using technological assistance, police conducted a raid in the Demra Police Station area early Thursday and arrested the three suspects.
Niaz Mehedi said the suspects allegedly left Mim Akter’s body at the hospital and fled the scene in an attempt to conceal the crime. To avoid arrest, they reportedly left their home in Sanarpar area of Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, overnight and went into hiding with their family members.
He added that proceedings to file a regular case at Siddhirganj Police Station are underway and that the investigation into the incident is continuing.
