32nd death anniv of Raufun Basunia observed in Kurigram

KURIGRAM, Feb 13:  The 32nd death anniversary of student leader Raufun Basunia was observed in his home town here on Monday through different activities commemorating his supreme sacrifice during the anti-autocratic movement against military ruler HM Ershad.
As part of the observance of the day, different socio-cultural organisations and political parities placed wreaths on his grave at Basunia Para in Rajarhat upazila of the district in the morning.
 Later, a memorial meeting orgnised by Shaheed Raufun Basunia Smriti Sangsad was held on the premises of Rajarhat College.
The meeting was addressed, among others, by Zila Parishad Chairman Md Jafor Ali, President of Bangabandhu Parishad Harun-Or-Rashid Lal, General Secretary SM Chanalal Bakshi, former student leader Abraham Lincoln, Abu Nur Mohammad Akteruzzaman, Shaymal Bhowmik and Dulal Bose.
Raufun, was general secretary of Dhaka University unit of Jatiya Chhatra League, who was killed by the then pro-junta activists. He was shot dead during a clash between Chhatra Sangram Parishad and Chhatra Samaj, the ruling Jatiya party backed student wing on February 13 in 1985.
