Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President and former minister Hasanul Haq Inu on Monday alleged in court that the country's judicial system was functioning as an extension of the Home Ministry, during a hearing in a case filed over an attempted murder during the Anti-Discrimination Movement.

The remarks came after a Dhaka court ordered that Inu and Workers Party President and former minister Rashed Khan Menon be shown arrested in the case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter passed the order after the investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Md Ashraf Hossain of Banshal Police Station, produced the two accused before the court and sought their arrest in the case.

During the hearing, Inu expressed dissatisfaction over being kept in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court lock-up for nearly four hours before being brought to the courtroom.

Addressing the court, he said he had been in custody for a long period and was maintaining records of the activities of judges and law officers in separate notebooks.

He further alleged that the judicial system was currently operating as a branch of the Home Ministry.

Following the remarks, the state prosecutor accused Inu of contempt of court and requested legal action against him. The court said it would decide on the matter at a later stage.
