The Cabinet has given final approval to the draft of the Public Examination (Offences) (Amendment) Act, 2026, introducing stricter punishment for illegal alteration of public examination results and organised exam fraud.

The decision was taken at the 10th Cabinet meeting held on Thursday at the Cabinet Room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the chair.

Under the amended law, hacking or unlawfully changing examination results and merit lists has been introduced as a new offence under the term “digital manipulation”. Offenders may face up to five years imprisonment along with financial penalties.

The Cabinet also approved draft laws aimed at curbing online gambling and technology-based drug-related crimes.

The Cabinet also approved the draft of the Narcotics Control (Amendment) Act, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen measures against emerging forms of drug-related offences.
