Heavy rainfall is likely in parts of the country as the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain and thundershowers accompanied by gusty or squally winds in several regions.

The weather office said at least 13 regions may experience temporary gusty or squally winds with speeds of 45-60 kilometres per hour along with rain or thundershowers. River ports in the affected areas have been advised to display Signal No. 1.

According to the inland river port forecast issued for Friday from 5:00am to 1:00pm, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Khulna, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet may see rain or thundershowers with winds blowing from the south or southeast.

Meanwhile, the BMD forecast for Dhaka and adjoining areas said the sky may remain partly cloudy to temporarily cloudy, with chances of thunder or thundershowers. Winds may blow from the south or southwest at 10-15 kmph, while daytime temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.

The capital recorded 25.4 degrees Celsius at 6:00am on Friday, with humidity at 95 percent. Dhaka received 15 millimetres of rainfall in the last 24 hours.

The nationwide forecast also said many areas in Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, along with some areas in Rajshahi division, may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds and lightning.

Moderately heavy to heavy rainfall may occur in some parts of the country, while temperatures may slightly decrease due to the impact of rainfall.
