KHULNA, June 17: Newly appointed Chairman of the Khulna Development Authority (KDA) Advocate SM Shafiqul Alam Mona has pledged to build a planned, modern and liveable Khulna City by ensuring accountability, integrity and public-oriented services.

He said this at a reception and farewell programme held at the KDA auditorium on Tuesday following his formal assumption of office as KDA chairman.

The programme, organised by the KDA Officers and Employees Welfare Council, was chaired by Ejajur Rahman. Outgoing chairman Brigadier General Mohammad Jahangir Hossain was accorded a farewell while Mona was welcomed by KDA officials and employees.

Addressing the gathering, Mona said no institution can survive without accountability and that the absence of accountability gradually leads to institutional decline. He called upon all stakeholders to work collectively to transform Khulna into a modern, planned and habitable city.

Among others, Administrator of Khulna City Corporation Nazrul Islam Manju, Khulna District BNP Convener Moniruzzaman Montu, Khulna Metropolitan BNP General Secretary and Bangladesh Cricket Board Director Shafiqul Alam Tuhin, Zilla Parishad Administrator Monirul Islam Bappi and former lawmaker Syed Nargis Ali were present.

Mona highly praised outgoing chairman Brigadier General Mohammad Jahangir Hossain, describing him as a sincere and capable administrator.
