PIROJPUR, June 15: A huge protest has taken place against a teacher of Town High School over the sexual harassment and mental and physical torture of a student of Grade Ten at Karimunnesa Girls' School in the town.

A human chain was also formed in front of Town School. Students, guardians and locals took part in the protest.

Female students of Karimunnesa Girls' School brought out a protest rally in the town on Monday noon, ignoring heavy rainfall, demanding exemplary punishment for Town Secondary School teacher Nirmal Chandra Bhadra.

The victim's father submitted an allegation letter to the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Superintendent of Police (SP) and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) for justice.

In the letter, it is stated that on  May 22 the victim went to the alleged teacher for private tuition, where she was violated. The victim returned home and disclosed the matter to her parents.

The victim's father also informed the local police station about the violation. Knowing this, the alleged Nirmal Chandra Bhadra and his men put repeated pressure on them to withdraw the allegation, threatening that otherwise the victim would fail ahead of the SSC exam.

Yet the victim's father filed the allegation with the administration, requesting the safety and security of his daughter and that her future not be ruined.

Local UNO Mamunur Rashid said, 'We are investigating the matter; punishment will be taken.'
Head Teacher of Town School Nazrul Islam said an inquiry committee will be formed and, after proving, necessary action will be taken.
