PIROJPUR, June 15: A half-decomposed youth’s body was recovered from a goods carrier cargo vessel on Sunday evening.

Police, fire service and local sources said that based on information, police from Umadpur Village, Parerhat sea fish landing areas under Zianagar Upazila in the district, along with the fire service, recovered the body of Abdullah Posari, 22, son of Alal Posari of the same village.

The cargo vessel MV Green Astral-1, owned by the Akij Group, sank on Friday in an accident; no casualty was reported then. On Saturday, police of Zianagar police station, being informed, recovered the body from the engine room of the cargo vessel. Police suspect that for looting valuables, the deceased entered the vessel with a gang; unfortunately, he could not come out from the engine room.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Zianagar Police Station Rabiul Islam said the body has been sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy, and necessary legal steps will be taken.
