Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) continues its patrols, intelligence surveillance and operational activities to prevent push-ins and other illegal activities along the border.

BGB has reportedly foiled attempts by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to push-in a total of 20 people into Bangladesh through the border areas of Chuadanga and Kurigram districts.

According to local sources, BSF personnel attempted to push in 11 individuals into Bangladesh through Pillars 76/77 along the Darshana border in Chuadanga early Sunday.

However, a patrol team of BGB intercepted the attempt and prevented their entry. The BSF later took the group-- eight men and three women-- back and kept them near the Indian side of the border. Lt Col Nazmul Hasan, Commanding Officer of BGB-6 Battalion in Chuadanga, said that BGB continues its patrols, intelligence surveillance and operational activities to prevent push-ins and other illegal activities along the border.

Meanwhile, BGB has received information that a further 125 people have been assembled on the Indian side of the border. Officials assume there may be attempts to push them into Bangladesh.

Confirming the incident, Lieutenant Colonel Md Nazmul Hasan, commanding officer and director of the Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB), said the BSF had attempted to push 11 Bengali-speaking men and women across the border. The effort failed as BGB personnel intervened, and the individuals were subsequently removed from the area by the BSF.

He said. "Through our own sources, we have learned that another 125 people have been gathered near the border and may be subjected to a similar push-in attempt. BGB remains on high alert in the area."

Local residents have also been advised to remain vigilant amid concerns over further attempts to push people across the border.

In a separate incident, the BSF allegedly attempted to push nine people, including two children, into Bangladesh through the Roumari border in Kurigram district. The attempt took place in the early hours through the Goytapara and Izlamari border points.
