Ramisa murder: Jail appeals of Sohel-Swapna for hearing accepted

The High Court on Sunday accepted the jail appeals filed by convicts Sohel Rana and Swapna Akter in Ramisa rape and murder case for hearing.

A High Court bench led by Justice Mohammad Ali passed the order today.

Earlier, the two convicts filed the jail appeals with the High Court challenging their convictions and sentences.

On June 7, Judge Masrur Salekin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Children Violence Suppression Tribunal sentenced both Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Akter to death. The tribunal ordered that they be hanged until death under Section 368 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, subject to confirmation by the High Court Division in accordance with Section 374 of the Code.

The court also fined Sohel Tk 5 lakh and Swapna Tk 2 lakh.
