JOYPURHAT, June 10: Village Police members have joined hands with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to strengthen security along border areas in Joypurhat's Panchbibi Upazila, carrying out round-the-clock patrols and surveillance.

According to local officials and residents, the initiative aims to prevent illegal cross-border activities and enhance vigilance along the frontier. Village Police personnel are working alongside BGB members in several border unions, including Aymarasulpur, Dharanji and Bagjana, as well as adjoining areas of Dhalahar and Chakbarkat.

Md Ruhul Amin, a Village Police member from Aymarasulpur Union, and Abdul Razzak from Dharanji Union said they had been carrying out duties in shifts under the directives of the upazila administration and union parishad authorities.

"We patrol border areas in groups with BGB personnel, particularly at night when monitoring becomes more important," they said.

Several border residents said security measures had been strengthened in recent months, prompting closer coordination between law enforcement agencies and local authorities. They noted that the presence of Village Police alongside BGB members has increased public confidence and reassured people living in frontier areas.

Panchbibi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Kashpia Tasrin has been holding regular meetings with border residents to discuss security concerns and raise awareness.

She called on local residents to work together with BGB and Village Police to help safeguard the country's borders and maintain peace and stability in the region.

The joint patrol initiative is expected to enhance surveillance and foster greater cooperation between security agencies and local communities along the border.
