PATUAKHALI, June 10: Professor Dr SM Hemayet  Jahan has joined as the 10th Vice-Chancellor of Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU).

He arrived at the campus around 10:30am on Wednesday from Dhaka by road and was welcomed at the main gate by teachers, students, officials and employees.

Later, he formally took charge of the university and placed floral wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar. He was given a guard of honour by BNCC and Ansar members of the university.

At around 11:30 am, he exchanged greetings with teachers, officials, employees and students at the TSC conference room. The programme began with recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by prayers and Munajat.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, the VC said he was grateful for the opportunity to lead the university and urged teachers to extend full cooperation for its development. He stressed that student welfare and employability would be his top priority.

The VC further announced plans to form a probe committee to investigate alleged irregularities and corruption at the university in the past.

Earlier, his appointment was confirmed through a government notification issued on June 8.
