GAIBANDHA, June 8: Two government officials were injured after being attacked at Balashi ferry ghat in Phulchhari Upazila of Gaibandha on Monday morning, according to police and a written complaint filed at Phulchhari Police Station.

The injured are Md. Mobarak Hossain, Assistant Sub-Plant Protection Officer of Char Rajibpur Upazila in Kurigram, and Abu Kalam, a first-class driver of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).

Police said the incident took place around 9:30 am when Mobarak Hossain arrived at the ghat after attending a family funeral and boarded a boat to return to his workplace.

He was allegedly forced to get off the boat by a group of local syndicate members, who pressured him to take another boat at a higher fare. When he questioned the irregular practice, the situation escalated into violence.
