Professor Dr Mohammad Hanif Murad has been appointed the first Vice-Chancellor of Laxmipur Science and Technology University (LSTU) for a four-year term following the government's approval of the new public university.

The appointment was confirmed through a gazette notification issued on Sunday by the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education. The notification was signed by Assistant Secretary Md Shah Alam Siraj on behalf of the President.

Dr Hanif, a professor of Applied Mathematics and former Treasurer of Noakhali Science and Technology University, has been relieved of his duties as Treasurer of the university to take up the new assignment with the approval of the President, who serves as Chancellor of public universities.

The appointment follows the recent approval of Laxmipur Science and Technology University by the Cabinet.

According to the notification, Dr Hanif will serve as Vice-Chancellor for four years from the date of joining or until reaching the age of retirement, whichever comes first.

The notification also states that he will serve as the university's chief executive officer and remain stationed on the campus full-time. The President and Chancellor retain the authority to revoke the appointment at any time if deemed necessary.
