A man has allegedly hit and hacked his sister-in-law and nephew to death with a hammer and machete in Manikganj's Daulatpur.

He also attacked his elder brother, the husband of the deceased woman, injuring him seriously.

The incident occurred around 10pm on Saturday night in the Kacharipara area of Bachamara Union in the Upazila, said Daulatpur Police Station chief Swapan Kumar Sarkar.

The dead were identified as Salam Ullah's wife Amena Akhter, 29, and their two-year-old son Aslam. Salam's younger brother Yusuf Ali, 40, has been absconding since the incident. Salam is a trader working in the Bachamara market and Yusuf lives in Dhaka.

Citing locals, police said that Yusuf had been having a family dispute with his elder brother Salam ever since he came home for Eid.

On Saturday night, when Salam returned home from the shop, Yusuf attacked him with a makeshift weapon, seriously injuring him. He later fled the scene.

Citing a witness, police said that around 10:30pm, Yusuf was seen on the road in front of the house, leaving in a hurry.

Later, locals rescued Salam in serious condition and admitted him to the Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex. However, Amena and her two-year-old child had been killed already inside the house.

While rescuing Salam, locals found the bodies of the mother and son in the house. They also saw a bloodied machete and hammer lying at the scene.    "bdnews24
