Two regional executive officers of Dhaka North and South City Corporations have been suspended over alleged negligence in removing sacrificial animal waste and accumulated garbage from several key roads in the capital.
The action came after Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expressed dissatisfaction on Friday after noticing waste lying on roads in different parts of Dhaka.
The suspended officials are Md Sadekur Rahman, regional executive officer of Zone-5 of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Kazi Saleh Mustanjir, regional executive officer of Zone-1 of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). Both hold the rank of deputy secretary.
According to officials concerned, the two officers have been attached to the Ministry of Public Administration and departmental proceedings against them have already begun.
The directive was issued by the prime minister on Friday afternoon, confirmed State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam.
Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary-1 Zahidul Islam Rony said the premier became dissatisfied after reports of sacrificial animal waste and previously accumulated garbage remaining on roads in Hatirpool, Elephant Road, Green Road, Farmgate and Karwan Bazar areas came to his attention.
Following the matter, immediate action was taken against the responsible officials for alleged failure in duty, he added.
