PATUAKHALI, May 24: The district administration has demolished more than a hundred shops and about 25 illegal houses from the land of Public Works Department (PWD) beside the road adjacent to B-Type Bazar in Patuakhali Municipality on Saturday afternoon.

The drive was conducted under the leadership of Executive Magistrate Tanvir Islam. During this time, the eviction team came under obstacles from the encroachers.

PWD Sub-Divisional Engineer Asim Chandra Karmakar said, "We came to know that a group of encroachers had been living and doing business by constructing illegal structures on government land for a long time. The illegal encroachers did not go despite being asked to leave the government land. Last Thursday, they were asked to move out directly, but they did not go, so the land was restored by conducting an eviction drive."
