A four-month pregnant housewife was allegedly slit to death by her husband at Satkhira Sadar upazila on Saturday night.

The incident took place at Laksmidari village under Bhomra union of the upazila.

The victim, Taslima Khatun, 35, was reportedly murdered by her husband, Saddam Hossain, who has been fleeing since the incident occurred at around 11:30 PM.

According to police and locals, Taslima and Saddam had been married for about 16 years and shared two children.

Their daughter Sadia revealed that her father was long addicted to drugs and frequently tortured her mother. On the night of the incident, the children and their grandmother were sleeping in an adjacent room when they awoke to Taslima's groaning. Upon entering the room, they found her lying in a pool of blood. With the help of neighbors, she was rushed to Satkhira Sadar Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared her dead.

Satkhira Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Masudur Rahman confirmed that police recovered the body and are sending it to hospital for an autopsy.

He added that a police drive is currently underway to apprehend the fugitive husband.
