A massive fire has gutted at least 17 business establishments to ashes at Miarhat Bazar of Nesarabad upazila of Pirojpur district on Friday midnight.

Affected traders claim the monetary damage caused by the blaze exceeds Tk 10 crore.

Local sources reported some ambiguity regarding the exact origin of the fire. However, the prevailing consensus suggests the fire broke out from an electrical pillar adjacent to a bamboo thicket next to a fertilizer and pesticide shop. The flames quickly spiraled out of control, engulfing neighboring businesses.

Upon receiving the alarm, three units of the Fire Service rushed to the scene and managed to bring the inferno under control after an effort of one hour.

Nesarabad Fire Service In-charge Monirul Islam confirmed that at least 17 shops were completely gutted. The destroyed businesses include three fertilizer and pesticide shops, a tea stall and various plastic, rope, hardware, grocery, saloon and betel leaf shops.
