
RAJBARI, May 11: Rajbari Deputy Commissioner (DC) Afroza Parveen inaugurated the canal re-excavation project from Kumor Gara Beel in Majbari Union of Kalukhali Upazila, via Gorai Tikri, towards Betbaria on Saturday. Among others, Kalukhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mejbah Uddin, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shams Sadat Mahmud Ullah, BNP leader Ainul Habib, Machhbari Union Parishad Chairman Kazi Shariful Islam, and members of the Upazila Law and Order Committee were present at the event.
The speakers said that if this canal is re-excavated, fish farming in the area will increase, water-logging will be reduced, and farmers will not have to suffer from water shortages in jute farming. Agricultural expansion in the area will be prosperous.
DC Afroza Parveen said that this project will be implemented under the Employment Generation Program for the Poorest (EGPP). About 5 kilometres of canal will be re-excavated through this project, which will have a positive impact on reducing water-logging in the area, increasing agricultural production and expanding irrigation facilities.
