Four children lost their lives in separate drowning incidents across Hatia and Kabirhat upazilas of  Noakhali district over the last two days.

On Monday morning, six-year-old Nusrat Begum Mariam drowned in a pond adjacent to her home at Char Laitra village of Hatia Municipality. Her body was recovered by family members around 11:00 AM after an extensive search.

In a similar incident at Hatia’s Sonadia union, the body of a four-year-old Saimun was found floating in a pond early Sunday morning. Saimun had been missing since Saturday afternoon before his body was spotted by relatives the following dawn.

Meanwhile, at Kabirhat upazila’s Narottampur union, two young girls, Niha, 3 and Jannat, 5, drowned on Monday morning. They reportedly fell into a water-filled hole created by soil excavation while they were playing.

Hatia Police Station officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Kabir Hossain confirmed the incidents, stating that the deaths appear to be accidental.

He noted that police visited the scenes and as no complaints were lodged by the families, the bodies were handed over for burial.
