10-year-old 'raped' in Gopalganj

A 10-year-old girl was reportedly raped at Nizamkandi village under Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj district on Thursday. 

The accused, identified as Mursalin Sheikh, from the same village, allegedly lured the child away under the pretext of taking a bath.

According to family members, the victim had traveled from her grandmother’s house in Bangram to her aunt’s residence last Sunday. 

On Thursday, Mursalin allegedly took the child to a nearby woods, taking advantage of her relatives absence, where he violated her. He then, reportedly threatened the child to keep it secret, but she later informed her family members of the ordeal.

The child was taken to Gopalganj 250-Bed General Hospital on Thursday evening, confirmed Superintendent Dr. Jibitesh Biswas, stating, "The child is receiving necessary medical treatment. We will conduct a formal medical examination once requested by the police."

Gopalganj Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md. Anisur Rahman noted that while they are aware of the hospitalization, a formal complaint had not been lodged yet.

He assured that legal action would be taken immediately upon receiving a written complaint.
