4 held in Jamalpur murder case

Four individuals were arrested in connection with the murder of an auto-rickshaw driver at Islampur upazila of Jamalpur district on Thursday.

 The arrests were made during a series of drives conducted across various areas of Sherpur district.

The deceased was identified as Jewel Sheikh, 30, from Melandah upazila, went missing on the morning of April 6 after leaving home with his vehicle. 

His body was discovered the following day, wrapped in polythene and adhesive tape inside a sack in a cornfield at West Shankarpur area of Islampur.

Following an investigation, Jamalpur police identified and detained the suspects Md. Saidul Islam, 45, Md. Asmat Ali, 32 and Md. Khurum, 25 all residents of Jhenaigati upazila in Sherpur, along with Sujan, 22 from Melandah upazila.

During the drive, police recovered the victim's looted auto-rickshaw from East Bakakura area.

Jamalpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Mst. Farhana Yasmin confirmed the arrests and stated that primary investigations suggest the suspects meticulously planned the murder to hijack the vehicle and mobile phone before dumping the body to conceal the crime.

The SP added that the accused have been forwarded to the court as the investigation continues to ensure a thorough trial.
