Four members of an alleged honey trap syndicate, including two women, were arrested on a raid of Detective Branch (DB).

The arrested individuals were identified as Sharmin Akter alias Brishti, 24, Smriti Akter, 20, Md. Kaiyum, 25 and Faisal Mia, 34.

A press release from Narsingdi district police confirmed the detention on Wednesday.

According to the notification, acting on the directives of Narsingdi Superintendent of Police Md Abdullah-Al-Faruk, a DB team conducted drives on Tuesday night at Sahepratap and Railway Station areas and arrested the suspects.

During primary interrogation, the suspects revealed that the gang used female members to establish a romantic relationships with targets over phone or using social media. Once a victim was lured to a secluded location for a meeting, they would be abducted and physically assaulted.

According to the police, the gang frequently filmed compromising videos with female accomplices. They then used these recordings to demand hefty ransoms, threatening to leak the footage online or kill the victims if they refused to pay.

Police recovered a victim’s mobile phone from Faisal Mia, who has reportedly provided a confessional statement in court.

Investigations revealed that the gang members are habitual offenders; Faisal Mia faces at least seven charges across Narsingdi and Chattogram, while Smriti Akter is named in multiple cases involving kidnapping and theft.

Narsingdi DB Police Inspector (Unarmed) Ershad Ullah stated that the operation was launched following a recent incident in the Nagriyakanda area.

A case has been filed with the Narsingdi Model Police Station and police have sought a seven-day remand for the accused while operations continue to apprehend other members of the syndicate, the official added.
