Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB-55) seized a large amount of smuggled Indian goods during different drives in Habiganj district on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of BGB officials took position about three kilometres inside the border at around 6 AM beside Teliapara tea garden area under Madhabpur upazila.

At that time, the team signalled a suspected truck to stop. On searching the vehicle, BGB members recovered a large quantity of Indian medicines and cumin seeds concealed under cargo stones inside sacks and seized these goods.

In a separate drive, a patrol team from Harinkhola BOP seized Akashmoni wood worth Tk 31,780 abandoned in the Harinkhola area of the same upazila.

BGB officials confirmed those incidents and said that the seized goods are being handed over to the concerned customs authorities following due process.

Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved in the smuggling, added officials.
