A 21-year-old tea worker was killed and two others were critically injured after being struck by lightning at Atwari upazila of Panchagarh on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Sarwaruddin, son of Abu Samad, from Sonapatila village in Dhamor Union.

The injured workers, Mustafa, 45, and Zaherul Islam, 43, are currently undergoing treatment at the Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital.

Local sources reported that the incident occurred while the trio was plucking tea leaves in a local garden.

As dark clouds gathered and a light drizzle began, a sudden bolt of lightning struck the field, causing the three workers to collapse instantly.

The trio were immediately rushed to safety but Sarwaruddin succumbed to his injuries on the way home.

The remaining two victims were subsequently shifted to the hospital, where their conditions remain serious.

Dhamor union parishad chairman, Abu Taher Md Dulal confirmed the incident.
