
Former chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) ATM Zahurul Huq has passed away.
Huq, a former Dhaka University Economics Department chairman, breathed his last early on Tuesday at a Dhaka hospital, his son Sajedul Huq told bdnews24.com.
The 80-year-old was suffering from liver cirrhosis and kidney complications, said Sajedul, director of the Centre for Language Studies at the University of Liberal Arts, Bangladesh.
The family said that he will be buried at the Mirpur intellectuals ' graveyard in the afternoon following the funeral prayer at the Dhaka University Central Mosque.
Huq served as the chairman of Dhaka WASA for two years after retiring from the Dhaka University in 1997.
He headed the UGC for four years between 1999 and 2003.
The academic has served as Dean of the faculty of Social Science, Arts and Humanities at the Stamford University until his death.
