GAIBANDHA, Apr 24: A 15-year-old schoolgirl died under mysterious circumstances at her elder sister's house in Gaibandha Sadar Upazila early Friday, raising questions over the incident.

The deceased, Monalisa Akter, daughter of Hannan Mia of West Komornoi area under Kholahati union, was an eighth-grade student of NH Modern High School.

Police and local sources said Monalisa had gone missing from home on Tuesday following a reported relationship with a local youth.

Her family later filed a general diary (GD) at Gaibandha Sadar Police Station, after which the issue was settled through local mediation and she was returned to her family.

She was later kept at her elder sister's house nearby. On Thursday night, she suddenly fell ill and died shortly after receiving treatment from a local doctor.

Gaibandha Additional Superintendent of Police Bidroho Kumar Kundu said police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
