2 children drown in Chuadanga

Two children died in separate drowning incidents within six hours in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga district on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Rufaiyit Hossain, 4, son of Asman Ali, a resident of Dholmari village in Mujibnagar upazila of Meherpur and Anisa, 9 months, daughter of Anowar Hossain, a resident of Chandipur Khamaripara village under Kurulgachhi union.

According to locals, the first incident occurred around 9:30 AM in Boalmari village under Natuda union. Rufaiyit had gone to visit his maternal grandfather’s house. While playing near the house, he reportedly fell into a nearby pond unnoticed. Later, after a long search, he was rescued from the pond and declared dead.

In another incident around noon, infant Anisa fell into a water-filled pit beside her house due to negligence. Family members rescued her and attempted to provide treatment, but she could not be saved.

Damurhuda Model Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Sheikh Mezbha Uddin said the bodies were handed over to the families after completing legal procedures as no complaints were filed.
