Lightning strikes kills 2 in Munshiganj

Two young men lost their lives in separate lightning strike incidents at Tongibari upazila of Munshiganj district on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Rijan Dhali, 16, a resident of Fajusar village under Arial union and Rakib, 22, a resident of Hayarpard area of Dighirpar union.

According to witnesses, Rijan was struck by lightning while bringing cattle home from a field during the rain. 

Locals rescued him and rushed him to Tongibari Upazila Health Complex but the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Meanwhile, Rakib was severely injured by a lightning strike while playing football.

He was also transported to hospital immediately but declared dead by the on-duty doctor. 

Dr. Md. Nure Alam Siddiqui, residential medical officer of Tongibari Upazila Health Complex, confirmed the deaths.

Tongibari Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Monirul Haque Dablu stated that the bodies would be handed over to the respective families following the necessary legal procedures.
