Prof. Dr. Md. Faruque Shah resigned as Provost of Dhaka University’s (DU) Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Huq Hall on Wednesday to pursue postdoctoral research abroad.

During his impactful 18-month tenure, Prof. Shah implemented 42 development projects that significantly modernized hall infrastructure and student life.

His initiatives included enhancing security via CCTV and digital cycle stands, improving sanitation and renovating religious spaces. He prioritized student welfare by supplying new furniture, installing water filters and renovating reading rooms, the canteen, and nearly 95 rooms.

Furthermore, he bolstered co-curricular activities by establishing a gymnasium, a medicine corner, and various student clubs.

On Tuesday, the Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr ABM Obaidul Islam approved his resignation.

Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmad subsequently issued a letter appointing Prof. Dr. Md. Nurul Amin from the History and Culture of Islam department as the new Provost.

Prof. Shah leaves behind a legacy as a student-friendly leader who transformed the hall’s living conditions.
