A Bangladeshi national was killed in firing by India's Border Security Force along Patgram border of Lamonirhat early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Ali Hossain, 40, a resident of Dhabalguri village of the upazila.

According to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local sources, residents heard gunshots in two phases at about 2:50AM and 4:50AM.

After that BGB contacted the BSF over phone around 6:35AM.

According to BSF, seven to eight  Bangladeshis allegedly tried to cut the barbed-wire fence to enter India. At one stage of scuffle, Ali Hossain sustained bullet wounds. BSF took him to an Indian hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Lt Col Syed Fazle Munim, Commanding Officer of Teesta Battalion-61 BGB, said authorities are preparing for a flag meeting at both battalion and sector commander levels.
