Dear Sir,
The streets of Chittagong are facing a serious problem due to the clutter of overhead cables. Electricity, internet, telephone, and dish lines are tangled together on the same poles, creating an unsightly view and diminishing the city's beauty. This unplanned wiring not only affects aesthetics but also increases the risk of accidents for pedestrians and commuters.
Although the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has permitted the National Telecommunication Transmission Network (NTTN) to place cables underground, implementation has not yet occurred. Allegations suggest that non-cooperation from ISPs and QAWB is a major barrier. Additionally, despite the Chittagong City Corporation signing an agreement with Fiber at Home to develop a smart city and enhance its appearance, no effective action has been observed so far.
Residents of Chittagong are seeking a permanent and practical solution. Immediate collaboration among relevant authorities is essential to organize overhead cables properly and implement underground wiring. Taking prompt action will restore the city's aesthetic charm, improve public safety, and move Chittagong closer to becoming a modern, smart city.
