19 injured as passenger bus overturns in Rangamati

At least 19 individuals were injured when a passenger bus lost control and overturned in Tangamati Sadar upazila’s Sapchhari area on Thursday morning.

According to locals, the incident occurred on a slopy stretch of road in Sapchhari, where the bus reportedly lost control, crashed into a hilly slope and overturned.

Following the incident, the driver fled the scene.

The bus was heading from Naniarchar upazila to Chattogram. Around 50 garment workers had reserved the bus to return to their workplaces in Chattogram after the Eid holidays.

Later, locals rushed to the spot, rescued the injured and took them to Rangamati General Hospital for treatment.

Being informed, a rescue team from Kaukhali Fire Service, led by Station Commander Md Abdul Mannan, conducted the rescue operation.

Confirming the incident, Rangamati General Hospital Residential Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Shawkat Akbar said that 10 of the injured were admitted to the hospital, while eight others received primary treatment and were released.

He also said that one critically injured passenger, Tuhin Chakma, 26, was referred to Chattogram for advanced treatment.
