
NILPHAMARI, Mar 6: National Jute Day was observed in Nilphamari on Friday with a rally and a discussion meeting organised by the district administration and the Department of Jute.
As part of the programme, a discussion titled 'Build the Jute Industry, Create Employment' was held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner's office at noon. Acting Deputy Commissioner Saidul Islam attended the event as the chief guest.
The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Jyoti Bikash Chandra.
District Jute Development Officer ATM Taibur Rahman delivered the welcome address.
Among others, District Cooperative Officer Mashiur Rahman, jute farmer Oliar Rahman, and Chief Executive Officer of Saidpur Enterprise Ehsanul Habib spoke at the discussion.
In his speech, Acting Deputy Commissioner Saidul Islam said, the government has taken various initiatives to restore the glory of jute. As part of these efforts, the process of reopening several closed jute mills has already begun.
He also stressed the need to increase awareness about the use of jute products and to encourage the development of new entrepreneurs in the sector.
"If more entrepreneurs come forward, it will not only create employment but also increase people's interest in jute products," he said.
Earlier in the day, a rally led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Jyoti Bikash Chandra paraded through different roads of the town.
Officials and employees from relevant departments, along with representatives from various professions, participated in the programme.
