Police arrested a man accused of hacking his sister to death in Chattogram’s Halishahar area on Monday night.
The arrested was identified as Md Jane Alam, a resident of Eidgaon Boro Pukur Dakshin Para under Halishahar Police Station.
The incident occurred around 10:00 PM. After that, locals detained the accused and handed him over to police.
The victim was identified as Chenowara Begum, 48, wife of Saber Ahmed, a resident of the area.
According to the victim’s son, Sekandar Hossain Robin, he and his father were at a mosque offering Tarawih prayers at the time of the incident. They later learned of the murder from local residents while returning home.
Halishahar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Kazi Mohammad Sultan Ahsan Uddin said preliminary investigation suggests that the accused went to his sister’s house and attacked her with a sharp weapon, leaving her critically injured. She was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared her dead.
The accused is currently in police custody and is being interrogated. Further details will be known following investigation, added the OC.
