Biman Bangladesh Airlines has suspended all flights to six key Middle East destinations until March 5 following widespread airspace closures triggered by escalating geopolitical tensions in the region.
The state-owned carrier announced the decision on Tuesday (March 3), confirming that flights to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, Dammam in Saudi Arabia, Doha in Qatar, and Kuwait have been halted due to ongoing security concerns over the region's airspace.
Bosra Islam, General Manager of Public Relations at Biman Bangladesh Airlines, verified the suspension and stated that passengers would be informed about rescheduled flights once conditions improve.
The disruption stems from temporary airspace closures imposed by Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan since the afternoon of February 28 amid heightened conflict in the Middle East. The closures have severely impacted operations at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, throwing international flight schedules into disarray.
According to available data, a total of 147 international flights have been cancelled over the past several days. The breakdown includes 23 cancellations on February 28, 40 on March 1, 46 on March 2, and 38 on March 3, with the majority bound for Middle Eastern destinations.
Biman officials said uncertainty would persist until regional airspace tensions ease and conditions return to normal. Passengers have been advised to stay in contact with the airline's call center or relevant offices for updates on their travel plans.
