Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain has called for expanding China's ongoing cooperation in Bangladesh's health sector, praising the support already extended by the country.
The minister sought China's assistance in supplying diagnostic kits and medical equipment, as well as in arranging residential facilities for physicians and researchers at Bangladesh Medical University.
Expressing optimism, he said he hoped China would honor its commitment to support the construction of a proposed 1,000-bed hospital in Bangladesh.
The call was made on Monday at the Health Ministry's conference room at the Secretariat during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen. Health State Minister Dr M A Muhit, Acting Health Secretary Khorshed Alam, and Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka Shaopeng were also present at the meeting.
The Chinese ambassador assured that China would not hesitate to assist in building the proposed 1,000-bed hospital, whether it is a general hospital or a specialized one.
He noted that Chinese medical teams had come to Bangladesh to provide treatment to those injured in the recent aircraft accident at Milestone School, as well as during other emergency situations.
