Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) convener and Member of Parliament Nahid Islam has alleged that attempts are being made to use the judiciary to annul the referendum verdict that formed the basis of the recent national elections and government formation.

Speaking as the chief guest at an NCP divisional iftar gathering at a community center in Chittagong on Monday, Nahid Islam said the fight against hegemony is far from over.

He warned that efforts are also underway to politicize the judiciary once again.

"If the court is used as a tool to implement political or partisan agendas, the consequences will be extremely tragic," he cautioned, adding that the fall of the Awami League government began precisely because of the political manipulation of the judiciary.

Nahid Islam called on the current government to swiftly implement the referendum verdict and the July Charter, urging that the new parliament begin its journey based on the mandate given by the people.

The opposition chief whip also announced that the fight against corruption and extortion must resume with full force.

He urged NCP supporters in Chittagong to build strong resistance against extortionists and land grabbers, emphasizing that the movement cannot be led from Dhaka alone.

He called on local leaders to stand with small and large business owners to ensure no extortionist or terrorist can operate in the port city.

Nahid Islam said fascist elements have not reduced their activities in Chittagong and made clear that NCP and the ousted Awami League cannot coexist.

He declared that in any district where Awami League attempts to resume activities, NCP must ensure they are unable to operate, stating this mandate was given by the July martyrs.

The NCP leader said the struggle against hegemony will continue, not only against Indian dominance but also against any superpower acting against Bangladesh's interests.

He expressed disappointment over the Foreign Ministry's recent statement on the Iran-US conflict, questioning whether the country has fallen into a submissive foreign policy once again.

NCP Member Secretary and MP Akhtar Hossain said the referendum verdict and oath are now being challenged in the High Court, alleging a conspiracy to hand over the referendum issue to the courts through various tactics.
