The ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has appointed a chief whip and six whips for the 13th National Parliament.
According to a gazette notification issued on Monday, (March 2), Nurul Islam Moni, the member of parliament from Barguna-2 constituency, has been appointed as the government's chief whip.
The notification was signed by Parliament Secretariat Secretary Kaniz Mowla on the order of the President.
The six newly appointed government whips are G K Gous from Habiganj-3, Rokibul Islam from Khulna-3, Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu from Shariatpur-3, Advocate Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu from Natore-2, Md. Akhtaruzzaman Mia from Dinajpur-4, and ABM Ashraf Uddin Nizan from Lakshmipur-4.
The opposition had already selected its chief whip on February 17, the day parliament members were sworn in. Nahid Islam, convener of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) and a partner in the Jamaat-led 11-party opposition alliance, was named opposition chief whip.
