NARAIL, Feb 24: The killing of four people, including a father and son, over a long-standing feud and dominance dispute in Narail has created a sensation. Law enforcement has detained six people in connection with the incident.
One of the accused in the case Roni Sikder was arrested within 12 hours.
The incident took place in Barukula Village of Shingasholpur Union in Narail Sadar Upazila on Monday. Local sources said that there had been a long-running dispute between the two parties over dominance in the area.
Khalil Sheikh, 70, his son Tahazzat Sheikh, 41, Ferdaus Hossain, 40, and Osiqur Fakir, 36, were killed in the attack. Khalil, Tahazzat and Ferdaus are suspected to be from the same party and Osiqur is an opponent.
The family of the deceased Khalil Sheikh claims that a group of people attacked the house with country-made weapons while they were preparing to sleep. At that time, Khalil and Tahazzat were taken out of the house and killed. Ferdaus was also killed in the same incident. Osiqur Fakir, who was injured in the clash, was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Tension spread in the area after the incident. There were also allegations of vandalism and arson in some houses. Additional police have been deployed to control the situation.
Immediately after the murder, the police, DB and RAB-6 launched an operation. Based on a secret tip-off, a team of RAB-6 conducted an operation and arrested Roni Sikder, one of the accused in the case.
The others arrested are Halim Fakir, Tufan Molya, Lajuk alias Surya Sikder, Jasim Molya and Sadar Molya.
The autopsy of the four victims was completed at Narail District Hospital on Tuesday. According to the latest information, preparations for the case are underway and the operation to arrest those involved is ongoing.
Md. Rakibul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operation), Narail, stated that the case is still being processed in this incident. He assured that no one involved in the murder will be spared and that the arrest drive is ongoing.
