Colourful programme at Manipuri Fine Arts Academy marks Martyrs’ Day

A vibrant programme was held at Manipuri Fine Arts Academy at Kamalganj upazila in Moulvibazar district on Saturday to commemorate the Great Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day 2026 with due solemnity and respect.

The event, organised by the academy under the patronage of Ministry of Cultural Affairs, took place in the academy auditorium in the afternoon and included a discussion session, cultural performances and prize distribution for students.

The programme was chaired by the academy’s Deputy Director (additional charge) Prabhas Chandra Singh. 

The chief guest was Pratap Chandra Singh, President of Manipuri Social Welfare Association.

Special guests included renowned writer and researcher Ahmad Siraj, Kamalganj Press Club President Ashabuzzaman Shawon and Kamalganj BRDB Vice-President Nand Kumar Singh, while the programme was jointly hosted by music instructor Sutapa Sinha and dramatist Subhashish Singh. 

Welcome addresses were delivered by Kamalganj Press Club Vice-President Pintu Debnath and Bishwo Kobi Mancha convener Pulok Kanti Dhar.

During the discussion, speakers paid tribute to the martyrs of the historic language movement, emphasizing the importance of preserving the hard-won status of the mother tongue. 

They urged the younger generation to actively engage in promoting and practicing their native language.

Following the discussion, a cultural programme featured patriotic songs performed by local artists. 

The event concluded with prize distribution to winners of various competitions, presented by the chief guest and invited dignitaries.
