Rumeen Farhana, the newly elected independent Member of Parliament from Brahmanbaria-2, warned BNP to control its local-level leaders after she was obstructed by BNP activists from paying tribute at the Shaheed Minar in Sarail.

Speaking about the incident, the lawmaker alleged that she went to place wreaths at the Shaheed Minar in accordance with protocol when some BNP leaders and activists carried out a premeditated attack.

''If the BNP fails to control its local-level leaders and activists, the consequences will be severe,'' Rumeen warned.

According to reports, Rumeen Farhana left the Shaheed Minar premises without placing flowers amid the obstruction. Later, around 12:30AM on Saturday, her supporters blocked the Dhaka–Sylhet highway in the Shahbazpur area of Sarail upazila by setting fire to tree logs and bamboo poles.

The blockade caused a traffic congestion stretching at least 10 kilometers on both sides of the highway. Police later arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.
