Jamaat Ameer pays tribute at Shaheed Minar

Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, paid tribute to the language martyrs at 12:01am on Friday at the Central Shaheed Minar, marking International Mother Language Day and Shaheed Day.

He joined the state ceremony at the Shaheed Minar as part of the official observance of February 21. Newly elected Members of Parliament from the Jamaat-led 11-party electoral alliance accompanied him during the tribute. 

The information was earlier announced on the party's official Facebook page and confirmed in a press release signed by Mujibul Alam, senior assistant secretary of the party's publicity department.

Following the programme at the Shaheed Minar, Rahman visited Azimpur Graveyard, where he offered prayers and sought divine blessings for the departed souls of the language martyrs.

February 21 is observed nationwide in remembrance of the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement and is internationally recognised as International Mother Language Day.
