The government has extended the deadline for the export of aromatic rice until April 30. On February 8, the Ministry of Commerce sent a letter to the Office of the Chief Controller of Import and Export. A copy of the letter has also been sent to 61 companies that have been granted export privileges.

The deadline for the export of aromatic rice ended on December 31. Now, the deadline has been extended in view of the applications of the companies. According to the capacity of the companies, permission was granted in the amount of 100, 150, 200, 300, 400 and 500 tonnes in April last year.

As a condition for the export of aromatic rice, the export price of each kilogram of rice must be at least US$1.60. If the dollar is calculated at Tk 122, the price of each kilogram of rice in Bangladeshi currency will be Tk 195.

No one will be able to export more than the approved amount of rice. And after the shipment of each consignment, all export-related documents must be submitted to the Ministry of Commerce. This approval is not transferable in any way. That is, the approved exporting company cannot export through others without exporting itself, i.e. subcontracting cannot be given.

Bangladesh started exporting aromatic rice in the 2009-10 fiscal year. Rice exports were stopped for the first time in 2022, after which the government stopped exporting aromatic rice in October 2013, although it gave some permission from time to time.
