The Council of Advisers on Sunday adopted a formal resolution commending all those involved in organizing the country’s 13th parliamentary elections, describing the polls as historic, successful and festive.

The resolution was approved at the council’s 61st weekly meeting held at Chief Adviser’s Office, with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus presiding.

Later in the afternoon, Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed reporters at Foreign Service Academy on the outcomes of the meeting.

According to Shafiqul, the advisers termed the election a “successful and historic festive election” and expressed satisfaction over its overall management.

The chief adviser thanked all stakeholders for what he called their outstanding performance in conducting the polls.

The council extended special appreciation to Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury for his ministry’s role, noting that the country may not have witnessed a better-managed election in the past.

Gratitude was also conveyed to all law enforcement agencies under the home ministry—including the police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Coast Guard, Ansar and to the Armed Forces for their efforts in ensuring a peaceful voting process.

The advisers also approved a vote of thanks to immediate past Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid for his administrative leadership in helping organize the election in a free, fair and orderly manner.

The thanksgiving motion was moved by Information and Broadcasting Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan and unanimously endorsed by the council.

During the meeting, members observed that the election marked unprecedented achievements in several areas.

They highlighted that, for the first time, parliament will feature a visibly strong opposition, including individuals who were victims of enforced disappearances and killings, as well as those who played frontline roles in the July uprising, reflecting broader representation of society.

The council also noted the inclusion, on the treasury benches, of representatives who had previously suffered enforced disappearance and violence, calling it a significant development in the country’s parliamentary history.
