Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secured 49.97 percent of the total votes cast in 13th parliamentary election held on February 12, while Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami garnered 31.76 percent, according to statistics released by Election Commission (EC).
Among other parties, Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) obtained 3.05 percent of the votes, Islami Andolan Bangladesh 2.70 percent, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish 2.09 percent and Jatiya Party 0.89 percent. Independent candidates collectively received 5.79 percent of the votes.
A total of 77,695,023 votes were cast out of approximately 127 million registered voters in 299 constituencies, excluding Sherpur-3.
While the polls were held across 299 of the 300 constituencies, the election in Sherpur-3 was cancelled earlier following the death of a contesting candidate.
The EC released unofficial results for 297 constituencies on Friday, withholding the outcomes of Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4 in line with court orders.
In terms of parliamentary seats, BNP won 209 seats, while Jamaat secured 68. NCP won six seats and independent candidates claimed seven.
Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish won two seats, while Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (led by Andaleeve Rahman Partho), Ganaodhikar Parishad, Ganasamhati Andolan and Khelafat Majlish each secured one seat.
In the election, BNP fielded candidates in 290 constituencies, Jamaat in 227, Islami Andolan Bangladesh in 257, Jatiya Party in 199, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish in 34 and NCP in 32 constituencies.
